INDIVIDUAL TIME TRIAL MAP
Which route do I have to ride according to my age group?
The Gran Fondo route (km 130, difference in altitude 1993 m) has to be chosen by Age Groups Women 19-49 (19 – 34; 35 – 39; 40 – 44; 45 – 49) and Men 19-59 (19 – 34; 35 – 39; 40 – 44; 45 – 49; 50 – 54; 55 – 59).
The Medio Fondo route (km 103, difference in altitude 1247 m) has to be chosen by Age Groups Women 50+ (50 – 54; 55 – 59; 60 – 64; 65+) and Men 60+ (60 – 64; 65+).
How do I qualify for the 2018 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Varese?
You qualify when you finish within the top 25% of your age group in one qualifier event of your choice. Riders have to finish the race to be qualified. The 25% is calculated based on the number of starters, not on the number of finished riders. The age groups are: 19-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+ for both males and females. If you qualify, you’ll receive an invitational email from the UCI inviting you to register for the World Championships. In races with only a road race, you can qualify for both the time trial and the road race World Championships. In races with both a time trial and road race event, you will have to qualify in both disciplines separately.
The first three of each age category will always qualify directly for the World Championships, independent of the number of starters in that age group.
In addition, riders who participate in 3 qualifier events during the season will also get their ticket to The World Championships. They don't have to finish in the 25% first in their age category.
If you think you qualified but didn't receive an invitational email, you can contact the UCI directly at email@example.com.
Our Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine 2017 is a qualifier event for the World Championships. The time trial race will be held on September 30th 2017 while the road race on October 1st 2017, in Varese.
I'm having my birthday in between the qualifier event and the World Championships. In what age group do I need to start?
All riders have to start in the age group of the age they will be by the 31st December 2018.
